A Wildlife Haven
Surrounded by high moors and hills on all sides Glenlivet has long been a refuge for wildlife. Its rich and fertile soils support some of the largest stocks of wildlife to be found in the Cairngorms National Park. Over one hundred species of bird may be seen throughout the year and almost all species of terrestrial mammal found in Scotland are resident here.

Birdwatching
The combination of rivers, woodland and open ground, creates conditions suitable for many typical upland birds some of which (particularly birds of prey) are relatively rare. Over sixty species of birds are resident and a further forty seasonal visitors can be seen throughout the year. The spring is a particularly good time to visit when waders arrive for the nesting season and Black Grouse begin lekking. |

Wildflowers and Butterflies
Throughout the spring and summer Glenlivet has an enviable succession of wild flowers including many orchids and other plants unaffected by the agricultural modernisation found elsewhere. Butterflies include the rare Northern Brown Argus as well as the more prolific Scotch Argus.
